St. Maximillian Kolbe Church
The St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church masterplan was developed for a 7 acre siite with facilities that include the church building, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and social hall.
The "village" concept that generated the design of the master plan uses a series of arcades and courtyards to tie the building elements together. Responding to strict architectural guidelines from the City of Thousand Oaks, the design is an interpretation of the California Style with tile roofs and simple plaster walls. Deeply inset window elements are highlighted with tile borders and decorative window patterns.
The worship space was designed to accommodate 850 seats and a movable altar platform. The rising ceiling line features heavy timber trusses and exposed wood decking. A large central skylight filters light through a decorative wood lattice to the altar below. The selection of colors, materials and patternings were coordinated with liturgical furnishings to create a harmonious, consistent backdrop for worship.
