St. Kateri Tekakwitha

Parish Church

Santa Clarita, California

The St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish Church master plan was developed to be built in phases on a 9.62 acre site located in the City of Santa Clarita. Facilities include the church building, parish hall, K-8 elementary school and day care center.

The unusual shape and difficult topography of the site created challenges in organizing the master plan. The parish hall's curved facade sets into the rising hillside and faces an outdoor gathering space that is screened from the street by a rustic stone clad wall. The future church building sits on an adjoining promitory that reinforces a strong presence in the community. The balance of the site is dedicated to school and day care uses and is buffered from the street with sloping topography and landscape buffers.

The completed parish hall includes a 650 seat worship space that can be divided into meeting rooms and a full service parish kitchen. Additional meeting rooms, support offices and a youth center are located on a basement level. The result is a project that well serves the immediate needs of the parish and allows for a successful development of the remaining master plan elements in the future.
